Todd Lantery of Montgomery Center to Graduate From Community College of Vermont

Todd Lantery of Montgomery Center, VT will be awarded an Associate of Science degree at the Community College of Vermont's commencement ceremony being held at 2 p.m. on June 1, 2013 on the Norwich University campus.

This year the College will award 614 associate degrees in total, reflecting the largest graduating class in CCV's history. This year's graduating student body includes:

  • 415 women and 199 men ranging in age from seventeen to sixty-seven;
  • 395 first generation college students;
  • representatives from all fourteen Vermont counties;
  • representatives from eight states other than Vermont, including Arizona, Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, and Ohio;
  • representatives from ten countries other than the United States, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, China, Congo, India, Kenya, Panama, Peru, Russia, and Somalia; and
  • forty-one military-connected students, of which six are dependents and thirty-five are veterans.

Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin will join CCV President Joyce Judy in leading the processional of graduates and dignitaries. Patricia Moulton Powden, director of workforce development for the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation, will be awarded the 2013 Community Service Award at the ceremony. Faculty member Kate Bradley and students Justin Corcoran and Bethany Towne will be awarded the 2013 Service Awards.

Author and radio personality Tom Bodett will deliver the keynote address. Bodett began his career as a commentator for National Public Radio's (NPR) evening news program All Things Considered. His voice has also been heard on numerous television programs and documentaries and he is currently a regular cast member of NPR's satirical weekend news quiz Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me. He is the author of seven books and fifteen audio titles and has been the spokesman for the Motel 6 lodging chain for the last twenty-seven years. Bodett is a former Dummerston, Vermont, Selectboard member, where he lives with his wife and children.

Karri Benoir, the 2013 student speaker, is a resident of Barre, Vermont and is graduating with an Associate Degree in Liberal Studies. She plans to attend Johnson State College in the fall and pursue a bachelor degree through the External Degree Program. Benoir was chosen as the student speaker for her remarkable leadership qualities and her successes in the face of life's hardships.
