Kelsey Bohlman of Newport, VT to Graduate From Community College of Vermont

Kelsey Bohlman of Newport, VT will be awarded an Associate of Arts degree at the Community College of Vermont's commencement ceremony being held at 2 p.m. on June 7, 2014 on the Norwich University campus.

Vermonters representing all 14 Vermont counties will be graduating along with students from nine other states and 15 countries worldwide. The youngest graduate is 17, the oldest, 67.

Governor Peter Shumlin, who will congratulate the 2014 graduates, will Join CCV President Joyce Judy in leading the processional of students. Also attending the ceremony will be Vermont State College's Chancellor Tim Donovan and members of the VSC Board of Trustees.

Stuart Comstock-Gay will deliver the commencement address. Comstock-Gay is President & CEO of the Vermont Community Foundation where he works with charitably-minded Vermonters to support organizations and issues across the state. His career has revolved around issues of democracy and civil liberties, civic engagement, and support for the non-profit sector, including leadership in addressing issues of substance abuse. He has written for numerous national publications, has been a regular radio commentator, and has spoken before hundreds of audiences on a wide range of topics surrounding community betterment. Stuart holds an MPA from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and a B.A. in Political Science from Bucknell University.

Olivia Smith-Hammond is the student speaker for the class of 2014. Smith-Hammond is from Burlington, Vermont and is graduating with an A.S. in Human Services. An active member of the Burlington community, she has been an intern at the Howard Center, Intervale Center, and the Vermont Center for Independent Living, where she received the Leader of Tomorrow Award. Olivia was an Americorps volunteer at the Converse Home in 2008 and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Vermont Family Network.

Receiving the 2014 Community Service Award is Green Mountain Power's Vice President of Generation and Energy Innovation, Steve Costello, a native of Burlington and a longtime resident of Rutland Town. After a decade-long journalism career, Costello was director of public affairs at Central Vermont Public Service from 1996 to 2012, when he joined GMP. Steve is active on numerous boards of directors, including the Rutland Economic Development Corp., Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce, and Neighborworks of Western Vermont. He is one of the organizers of numerous annual Rutland community service projects, including the Pack the Paramount Food Drive, Corporate Challenge Food Drive, and Gift-of-Life Marathon Blood Drive, which collected 2,350 pints of blood in one day last December, setting a national record.
